Get to Know Me

Léa Pereira,

MA Clinical Psychology & Psychotherapist

About me

I am a Portuguese Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist and I have been working mainly with adults and adolescents in international settings.

My love for Psychology and Psychoanalysis began when I first read about Freud’s work, many years ago, and became fascinated with how beautifully complex our inner lives can be, and how we can spend a lifetime trying to make them simpler while maintaining its profoundness.

I lived and worked in The Netherlands for over 7 years; I currently work in Lisbon, and therapy can be in English or Portuguese.

My Approach

My approach is an in-depth type of psychotherapy based on Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), which means that our work together is guided by principles of empathy and understanding, honesty, respect and curiosity about who you are, what you already know about yourself, and where you want to go.

My academic life was mainly in Lisbon, Portugal, where I became a licensed Clinical Psychologist (MA). I began my professional life still in my own country working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Disabilities, being trained for that in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Later, in the Netherlands I concluded a 3 year course and became a Psychotherapist, having trained in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), in The Netherlands Foundation for ISTDP. I'm a member of Nederlands Instituut van Psychologen (NIP), Portuguese Board of Psychology (OPP),  IEDTA (International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association), International Counselling Connections and Stillpoint Spaces.

I have worked in very different settings, from public schools, to big companies, private practice, public daycares for people with disabilities, private schools for children with autism, places with a lot of resources, and places with almost no resources, with 3 year old children, or 60 year old adults, in different languages and with over 40 different nationalities. Through the years my main experience has been working as a Clinical Psychologist, doing psychological assessment, counseling and psychotherapy, and in the recent years I focused on individual psychotherapy with adults and adolescents in international settings.
